Introducing Ritt v1.5.0

Introducing Ritt v1.5.0

We introduce several exciting new features with this update! The full release notes can be found here. In this post, we will highlight the major changes.

Support for multiple languages

We have added support for Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) and Polish (thanks to one of our users, Łukasz Bezwerchny). If you wish to help translate Ritt into other languages, please get in touch by Discord or email.

By default, Ritt's UI language will follow your system's language. If you are using the Microsoft Store version of Ritt, you can override this in Settings -> Appearance -> Language selection. This option is not available for now for the unpackaged version (installed with .msi) due to a Windows App SDK limitation but will be included in the future.

Create tags from keywords

You can now create Ritt tags from keywords of a file (also called tags in Windows Explorer). If you have lots of existing tag embedded in your files, you can now easily import all of them into Ritt!

You can also write Ritt tags as keywords in file formats that support it (.jpg, .mp4). To do so, simply select the target files -> right click -> Keywords -> Write tags as keywords. Please note that this will replace any existing keywords with Ritt tags.

Tag inheritance

In this version, we added a new tag attribute called "Inherit". If a folder is tagged with a tag with this attribute, files within that folder will inherit said tag. Learn more about tag inheritance here.

This tag attribute will replace previous implementations of tag inheritance, which from user feedback is confusing.

Searchable notes

Notes attached to files and folders are now searchable from the Search bar.

Fully expand/collapse tag tree

You can now right click on the arrow button of the tag tree to fully expand or collapse the tree. Integrated folders can also be expanded or collapsed.

Portable version

In addition to the Microsoft Store and standalone MSI installer versions, we also released a portable zip version that does not require installation to run. Simply unzip to a folder and run the Ritt.exe file to start. Please note that the portable version does not support automatic updates.

Conclusion

We hope that you found these new features useful. If you have comments or suggestions for improvement, please join our Discord server or email us directly.
